Pictured above is the first blooms of the season. made by only 2 bulbs. There are 5 Blooms per stalk. White with black pollen. Spectacularly fragrant, Crinum Powellii Album is a striking perennial featuring umbels of large, trumpet-shaped, snow-white flowers.
These bulbs are harvested from a 30 year plus landscape . I used to take these flowers as gifts to teachers when I was in the 1st grade and I am 42 years young. They reach up to 48 inches tall and produce multiple blooms Per stalk. They will bloom multiple times per season and provide dark green foliage in the colder months. They can freeze or get sunburned and still come back stronger and fuller then before.
They range in sizes from small to XLarge. They reproduce and spread very quickly once they are mature and will fill in large areas quickly. Placement is 1 mature bulb per square foot . They love sun or shade with any soil type but prefer 8 plus hours of sun with moist soil sand mix. They love softer ground and have very long large tubular roots and provide excellent ground preservation . Perfect for large areas or bordering landscapes. Each stalk of large bulb once it blooms has 4 to 7 flowers protruding from it . They are a beautiful mix between amerylis and lily bloominglate summer early fall . They reproduce after last frost to early spring as long as ground is sufficiently protected and covered with mulch or moss .
They can be harvested and transplanted as long a roots do not get to dry and stay protected from light they will bloom again. Bright light and forced hibernation is reason for delayed bloom but if it does happen they will bloom next season after last frost. They are hard to kill, hearty and will spread making then invasive in some circumstances like their gala lily cousins . Once rooted they will stay.
Dug during the dusk or night before placing in ventilated bag in original soil to prevent exposure to light and shock.
